LASA is pleased to announce the creation of the Amazonia Section. Its objective is to increase the visibility of cultural, political, social, economic and environmental processes that involve the populations, flora, fauna, and ecosystems of the Amazon basins.
This section is made up of LASA member academics, local and indigenous community leaders, involved artists and activists and experts in environmental issues, who are not necessarily academics. Together they aim to share experiences and knowledge, learn from them and inform society about the challenges the Amazon is currently facing.
The goal of the LASA sections is to connect and increase communication and interaction between people with common interests and specialties. Thus, sections encourage participation and discussion among members of the organization as defined on topics in Latin American studies.
